Jane There are two sorts of records on the LDS site, EXTRACTED and SUBMITTED. Extracted records are taken from the parish registers and are just as subject to errors as any other transcribed material, so it pays to check. SUBMITTED records are submitted by anyone and are not checked - they can range from 100% accuracy to 100% fantasy. Personally, I dont bother with them myself unless I am truly desperate for a lead. If you want to look at ONLY extracted records, then use Hugh Wallis site, which takes you to the LDS site, but filters out the submitted stuff. Don't forget though that Hugh Wallis site is not complete, and has not been updated for at least 5 years. OC

Hello Roger, Why would you think they may be wrong? I was under the impression the information on there had been taken from the parish records. Jane

I say yes they do as I have had records come and go. But I never take anything on IGI as Gospel, lol, as quite alot of the records are wrong, so if you get anything off there always double check it by looking on the local parish records to see if it is correct. Roger

I'm going to the Family History Show in London in May. If the LDS are there (which I expect they will be) I'll ask the question - go straight to the horses mouth so to speak! ;-) Cheers, Horatia

Yes! There is an ongoing debate on these boards as to whether IGI information is rotated, some say it is, others say it isn't. All I can say is from personal experience, information seems to come and go on the IGI, for no apparent reason. Try again in a week or so. OC

IHello, have been searching on the IGI for information(a birth) I KNOW I once had from the site, and now cannot find it, has anyone else experienced this problem? Jane
