Thank you Richard, I'm doing exactly what you suggested and have found 4 poss surnames at mo. Cheers Michael for your helpfulness but I do have the details you have given me + copy MC prob is address or both WTCross and EHeather is Aldershot Barracks and I've hit a brick wall for the past 6 months or so. Hoped to find some more info nearer to home. Just found THCross and hoped he might have further info somewhere. Will get there I expect with a little help from friends. Thank you both so much. Signing off until tomorrow. Pat

Hi Pat FreeBMD doesn't cover the 1930's/40's at present - it only goes up to about 1915. Therefore you need to look at the complete BMD marriage index, quarter by quarter, for the period in which you expect to find the marriage. You can do this for free on Ancestry: http://content.ancestry*co.uk/iexec/?htx=List&dbid=8965 (replace * with . ) Cheers, Richard

Thanks a lot Richard. I have looked at the FreeBMD. Like you say it looks like I might have to shell out on a DC for Vera just didn't want to spend too much on this area of family tree at this stage but it look like I'll have to. Cheers Pat

This looks like Vera's death: Name: Vera Kathleen Cross Birth Date: 6 Jan 1919 Death Registration Month/Year: Jun 1996 Age at death (estimated): 77 Registration district: Scarborough Inferred County: Yorkshire Register number: A54A Entry Number: 181 The death cert would have her maiden name. Have you looked at the complete BMD images on Ancestry for the marriage, or only on FreeBMD? The latter stops at about 1915 so you need to look at the complete index. Cheers, Richard

Can anyone help me find a record of a marriage between Thomas Henry Cross (born 14.03.1914 in Aldershot Hampshire) to a Vera Kathleen ..........(no maiden name, sorry). I've looked on BMD for the period around 1934-1944 but no matches. Ancestor says the same. Vera was still his wife in 1987 when he died in Scarborough (info from DC). I'm trying to gather information about Thomas Henry in the hope that he can help me go backwards to maybe finding xtra info about his father. Thanks, Pat
