The familysearch.org IGI has some Irish records but to do your UK ancestors, ancestry is a real must-have.

Hi Ann, There are now 5 separate Ancestry sites:- UK, USA, Canada, Australia and Germany. You can logon or subscribe via any one of them and get the same information depending on what you have paid for, they all use the same central databases, but each one's starting screen shows info specific to the country. For instance if you logon via the Australian site you have to dig a bit for the UK census records. There are some Irish records on Ancestry (UK subscription gains access) but they are limited and there are no census or BMD indexes. If most of your rellies are from UK then I would suggest a UK subscription and then maybe a pay by the month for a World Deluxe, make sure you cancel the membership when you are finished. Try one of the free trials first (read the terms and conditions). Paul

There are two log ins to Ancestry, Ancestry*co.uk and Ancestry*com Both give you access to the same records it is just that the former has it's menus aimed at UK subscribers, whilst the latter has a US bias. There are some Irish records but they are not that extensive. When it comes to the records you can actually access, this depends on the subscription you have, not the log-in used. There appear to be two options at present 'UK Membership' or 'World Membership'..Mine is 'UK & Ireland Records Collection' which I don't think is available to new subscribers.

Ann Ancestry to the best of my knowledge does not have Irish records. Someone correct me if Im wrong. Saying that its a must have subscription if you have UK ancestry. Sue
