Christine Just as a matter of interest.... You quoted a time of birth, was she a twin? Or is this a Scottish birth? Somewhere in the back of my aged memory I seem to remember Scottish certs gave/give? a time of birth as standard whereas English ones only give it for twins, triplets ect. Might make a difference, if it is a Scottish birth, how people advise methods of research :) Chris |

This is a bit strange isnt it. I mean that January birth for 1901 would fit in nicely with a 2 month old kiddie in 1901 census. Are you sure you have the right family on the 1901? |

The person on the 1899 birth register obviously isn;t your relative. Can you give us all the details from the birth cert you have, including the father's occupation and the place it was registered? Sam x |

Sorry, I meant she is on the birth register for 1899 and on the 1901 census as being 2 it doesn't say months, but the birth certificate I have says she was born at 11.20am 21st Jan 1901, I cannot find her on the 1901 birth register. This cert I have been given by my mother with a whole lot of other documents, it's an original certified copy!! |

Do you mean you cant find her in 1899 but can find her in 1898? Well, the census only gives an age as she was that day. The next day could have been her 3rd birthday. If you really mean that the cert is 1901, then check the census image - it may be she was 2 weeks or 2 months old rather than 2 years. What is the date on the 1901 birth certificate? |
