Try a google search for trade directories of Holywell, Julie I had a look at the 1851 census for Stephenson + it is BRYNFORD. On the 1841 census it's Holywell + the address looks to me like COED MAIN. Hope that helps! Ann |

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help with any history and parish records or trade directories of Holywell, in particular publicans or help with Welsh family names of Stephenson and Hughes in Holywell area in early 1800's. Also could anyone cast a look at following census and see if they can clarify the following roads for me which my dodgy eyes cant quite make out. There were apparently a number of Stephenson families but my family is as follows James Stephenson m. Eleanor Hughes 7 Dec 1833 children Mary 1836 , Elizabeth 1838, John 1840, Esther 1846 On 1841 census living at Paoll (??) Maelor James was a Lead Miner On 1851 census at 130 Chester Road, Publican On 1861 census at Brynford (??) ..poss Hill (??) Publican at I think it says Miners Arms (are the above two addresses the same ie is Brynford Hill on Chester Road or would you think different pubs. Cannot locate family on 1871 census . There is a death of a James Stephenson 1st quarter of 1885 but i havent been able to confirm that this is my James. Could anyone advise re any other sources of Welsh records before 1841 online , I dont have any knowledge of Eleanor Hughes family of that area Any tips or fresh eyes would really be appreciated Many thanks |
