Susan, you can check the complete marriage index free on ancestry, it will be a long trawl, every quarter has to be checked individually for the marriage. http://www.ancestry*co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx Replace star with dot. |

Susan, have now checked 1931-1940 as well, no marriage I can see for Lilian Rook to a Grey/Gray anywhere. Are you certain they married? When was first child born? |

Thanks for your help Keith. I've just trawled through some family letters and apparently there was 2 marriages. First was to a Canadian flying officer during WW1, they went to Canada to live, around Edmonton. He was killed in a shooting accident and she returned to England. 2nd marriage was in London to a chap named Gray/Grey. Written family records do not refer to any children, but oral history refer to 1 at least. I have looked throught the marriage records for the past two days, and like you it's all come to nothing. That's why I asked for help. Oh well, back to the drawing board. Thanks anyway. |

When Lillian married for the second time her surname would not have been Rook. You will need to search the Ancestry Index for the war years to find her first marriage then look between 1920-1940 for her again with the married surname. |

Thanks for confirming that point Helen, it did cross my mind over the weekend while trawling through the records. Shirley...have checked the ancestry marriages for her from the age of 15 to 40, and still not found her 1st marriage. I'm thinking maybe she got married in Canada? As to her second marriage, I think her 'married' name was Howell, as I found 1 child, but still no marriage. I'm thinking that perhaps it was a common-law arrangement. I came across the Llewellyn/Rook marriage myself, but discounted this as I know she got married (so to speak) in London and lived all her life in Fulham. Thanks for all suggestions and ideas both. Until the next time. |
