Thanks Giz. I've got as one of my possibles. Heather - she's on the 1871 as a visitor. Visiting relatives, I think. |

So on the 1871 is the wife shown as 'widow'? In which case the above death may be a good bet or have you already discounted that one? |

Heather I have 5 generations of James Wards. The last one I can trace is on the 1861 census. James Ward was born in 1805 in Derby and lived in Birmingham with his wife Ann and 4 children - Albert Thomas, Frances Louisa, Henry Arthur and James. I think his wifes maiden name was Smith, but haven't checked it yet. She appears on the 1871 census as a visitor - think she was visiting her relatives. Sandy |

Thanks Kathleen. I have over 15 possibles so far - James would have been 74 so I hope he didn't live to 100! I'll just have to hope he died in the same area as he lived and send for the certificate. |

The only way is to search the Complete death index (not the FreeBMD index) and look at the images for every qtr, year by year. Kath. x |

I haven't had much luck looking for deaths of ancestors. Does anyone have any tips on how to go about searching? I have been looking from the date the person last appeared on a census, but with common names and having no idea where he/she could have died, I'm a bit stumped. Any suggestions will be most welcome. |
