Im tracing DAVID WILLIAMS (1826) & SARAH WILLIAMS (1828) -who I found on the 1871 Wales Census with their family at 22 Clwyd St, Ruthin, Denbyshire. I think ive found them in 1861, but the address is registered as 'Gas Works' with David as a gas fitter. BUT on 1841 & 1851, 1871, 1881 census he is registered as a farmer, which also his father was. I cant see why he would have changed his profession? but I cannot find another David Williams in the area ??? Im going ga ga trying to work this out? anyhelp greatly appreciated! |

Hi, I have had a quick look at the 1861 census and agree that it appears to be the same family as you have in the 1871 census. Perhaps you could get the birth certificates for a couple of the kids and see if David's occupation tallies with the information in the census. Pete |

Well, the census is just a snap shot - 10 years is a long time between them and who knows - the gas works may have just started up and they were offering huge pay for men to get it up and running and your chap decided to grab the money? Why dont you try googling for the history of the gas works and see when it started/who they employed/how it effected local economy? |
