Hi everone Iam trying to trace my Fathers line I never knew him ,and he was never spoken of.On the marriage certi in 1944 his address given was that of his training camp ,so dont know were he came from. knew he was born in 1920 so using what info I had, sent for a birth certi having a 3 year search done , came back with 2 so which one.So thought his service record might tell me,I can prove my kinship ,but I have to prove his death as well ,cant do that dont know were he came from .Any ideas ? feel like giving up He worked on the railway for a short time when I was born.Do they hold any records does anyone know? Thanking you dont know were else to turn Carol

Thats very difficult for you. Railways do keep records but I guess its possible your dad is still alive? And I doubt they would divulge personnel info anyway. If its not dad you want to trace, but his ancestry - what is his fathers name on the marriage cert? If the birth certs you have for him match the father on the marriage certificate - name/occupation ........

Hello again Its my Fathers ancestry I want to follow ,to know my roots from his side. I sent for both birth cert my Fathers name was George his Fathers name George Henry, bricklayer but no George Henry on either ,only George one was a miner the other a blacksmiths stricker on the Railway so no match there I know they didn,t always use there 2 names and then ww2 came along so they might of changed their occupation so sent for both marriage cert still no luck only George so you can see I,m at a loss my father before the war was a shoemaker Carol

Hi Carol Do you know when or where your father died? If he died after 1984 then you will find his death record on Ancestry along with an exact Date of Birth. So I am right in saying that his name was George born 1920 (place unknown) and his father was George Henry ? What was the surname ? Cheers...Paul

Well Paul, the right birth date rather depends on the informant knowing it, doesnt it and we dont actually know if this chap is deceased, which makes it difficult re information being put on here. So Carol are you saying that the birth certs sent to you both have a father called George, because you specified that in the search? Carol, sorry to be picky but does his dads occupation say brick layer or brick maker? Whereas you are unlikely to change job if you are a skilled man(brick layer), as a brick maker, then you may well do.

Oh yes, definitely Paul, its just it was fresh in my mind cos I am collecting together a lot of certs for an intestate property thing at the mo and I found the death cert of one chap, giving exact date of birth - looked for birth cert - NO WAY - the death cert was 2 years out. Have pmd you carol
