Have you tried searching for Calshaw instead? I see there were people of this surname in Lancashire and can imagine it being heard as Calashaw if said with a Scottish accent. |

I have a copy of my Great Grandparents marriage Cert. 31/12/1897 Hawick Charles Walton 23 Dyehouse Worker 5 Kirkwynd Hawick Father George Walton Foreman Mason Mother Mary Walton ms Calashaw. Margaret Stewart 20 Factory worker 5 Kirkwynd Hawick Mother Margaret Stewart. It is Charles that I am stuck with I don't know where he came from !! On 1901 census it just says England!! My gran used to tell me that Charles was the Black sheep of a well to do family and his father disowned him. Charles moved to Scotland and supposedley changed his name. Does anyone have any ideas where I would start with this one. There doesnt seem to be any Calashaws on any of the censuses England or Scotland except 2 on Ancestry 1901 Mary ann & Patrick Callashaw which turn out to be a mistrascription of Callaghan. There are hundreds of Waltons and even a few charles born about the righ time but none have turned out to be the correct one. Thanks for reading this any ideas would be appreciate. Lesley |
