Ladies, thank you for your replies. I should have mentioned that familysearch isn't letting me on at the moment. Thanks for finding those names. I can go from there and see what I can find. I am always wary of assuming, but I would say they are definately family as there aren't a lot of Holgates in Bramley. I just have to find where they fit in. I appreciate your time. Susan

have you tried familysearchdotorg??? you should not assume, but on the other hand it can be easier to assume.. try and get some help from the records board to see what they can find for you, i tend to take things from them and whatever else and believe, but i like to see things in paper for myself but as the years go back there is no way of knowing. don`t know if this makes sense but deff recommend trying the records board for help first before you add anything sharon

You know they are probably related somehow, you could make up a 'mini tree' with all the details ready to add them in when you have access/get a look up in the parish records which will help to confirm their relationship. I would say it is unsafe to assume without some further research. Gail.

My 3 x great grandmother was Nancy Bates nee Holgate b. 1813. Her parents were Thomas and Elizabeth. All born in Bramley, West Yorks. By trawling the village in the 1841 Census I found a William Holgate b. 1806, married with two children called Thomas and Elizabeth. Also John Holgate b. 1807 with a son called Thomas and a Benjamin Holgate b. 1816 with a daughter called Elizabeth. In the village there is also an Elizabeth Holgate b. 1781, widow who is possibly Nancy's mother. Is it safe to assume these are Nancy's brothers and mother? I don't have access to parish records etc. but I am reluctant to add them to my tree as they could also be cousins. Any thoughts would be welcome. Susan
