Hi, hope someone out there can help me, have hit a brick wall with my gg grandfather, William Shilcock. I know he was born in 1856 in the East Indies, and his occupation was Corporal in the Navy. I suppose I can assume that as he was in the navy then his father must have also been (owing to William being born abroad). I dont know where to look for a birth registration to gain his parents names. Any help or advice would be most appreciated. Thanks Clare

I've been through all the overseas records on 'findmypast' and haven't unearthed anything. Not much help but it might save you looking. Keith

It appears Patricia might also be a member of this site, if you do a quick search at the top for William Shilcock you will see one born circa 1855 Umballa,East Indies. (British Citizen), tree registered to a Patricia.

Hi dont know if you have seen this, and I know the year of birth is out but name and birth location does make it worth a look valmayukuk(.)tripod(.)com/register/id13(.)html remove the brackets SHILCOCK or SHILLCOCK 1846 'ish. I'm trying to find out anything about my great grandfather William John Shilcock born in East Indies around 1846. His father Thomas Henry Shilcock was listed as a Cordwainer on William's marriage certificate. Thomas must have been in the East Indies along with a wife or partner, perhaps aboard a ship, or attached to a regiment. Contact: Patricia Cordery if you visit the site you can click on her name and email her
