Sapper Frank Gimber 207971, 258th field coy Royal Engineers. He joined the R.N.D.E.at Walmer. Also How do I find my Granfathers militry records? . I have found his war grave and downloaded his medal card but am I able to read his records. |

You can write to this address for army records. They cost about £25 and you need to give them a name, number and regiment (all of which you have). You have to fill in a relationship form first and it has to be the nearest generation of ancestors still alive who can apply:- Army Personnel Centre Historical Disclosures Mail Point 400 Kentigern House 65 Brown Street GLASGOW G2 8EX It's usually quicker to ring them and they will send out the forms you have to fill in. It takes quite a few months to get the records (or it did a couple of years ago). Sorry about the R.N.D.E. I googled but could only come up with some French water company, so not sure what it stands for. Kath. x |

Something to do with the Royal Naval Division perhaps? They were certainly stationed at Walmer during WWI. I can't find anything specifically about the RNDE either, but there are quite a few references to men being members of the RNDE. Chris |
