No, never had a single, meaningful one. Lots from people who are descended from a sister of my 7 x GGF - pity she died aged four. Lots of matches with someone's aunt's husband's sister-in-laws mother's uncle in 1685. Have had slightly more success by using the name search facility on this site. That is how my 3rd cousin found ME - we have yet to be hot-matched. OC |

Yes, I've had quite a few - in fact got one today that I'm pretty sure will turn out to be a match. However I do get loads and loads that are nowhere near a match - sometimes born on the other side of the world - how that's a match I don't know, lol. Kath. x |

Hi all I am not keen on hot matches but I must say I would not have a tree without them I have met three second cousins I never new existed and been to see people I havn't seen for 40+ years I am in touch with 20+ rellys all over the world so I will put up with 60+ pages I'm stuck with and can't get rid of and to think I didn't know my Grandparents names or any thing about them when I started Paul |

Yes, Linda they certainly do! Through a Hot Match, last November, I found the only living person (from My Birth Family)who could tell me about my life before my Adoption! Turned out she had actually been my GodMother + I had lived with them for a while after my B/Mother died.It was a dream come true. Regards Ann |

Heather | Report | 7 Feb 2007 09:47 |
Ive had a few useful ones. I had one that matched a Horstead - contacted the chap, he sent me his info and it was completely wrong. He had paid someone for this stuff! The census image he sent me of supposedly his GGMX2, a Horstead was even a different name! He said the researcher told him it was just badly written. I informed him NO Horsteads had come from the part of the country shown in that census and I sent him stuff from 1901 back to 1735 on his real line. Afterwards I thought, damn, probably another waste of time, wont hear from him again. Couple of days later a HUGE bouquet arrived - he lives in Germany - followed by a thank you letter inviting me to lunch in London when he returns to England in the Spring. Another one contacted me, a Horstead asking me if I was the Heather who lived in Bulawayo in the 50s!! No I said, but that was my aunt. Turns out this Horstead lady had actually worked in Bulawayo with my uncle and they had remarked at the time what a coincidence they had the same unusual surname. What a shame! I told her that she and my now deceased uncle were in fact both descended from the same line in Norfolk. And they never knew. Ive had several others which have proved useful - so, yes it is a pain to sort through them but it is worthwhile. |

I've had loads of good Hot Matches, still in touch with most of the people concerned. One in particular has sent me loads of photographs of my gran and her siblings when young, which even my mum hadn't seen before, also photos of my mum's maternal grandmother. As my mum is 95, you can appreciate she was delighted. Another person sent photos of my mum's uncle. Long live hot matches, to me it is worth trawling through the list deleting the wrong ones, just to find even one right one. |

Wow I have had incredible success with hot matches.I had input all my family and my GG Grandfather had 12 brothers and sisters that I only knew the names of and now I have the downlines for 7 of these and all through hot matches. Normally I only bother looking if they have at least 3 or 4 matches as I figure that if their family matches mine then they will match on a number of people not just one or two. I have found and shared a huge amount of info with about 10 people that are long lost relatives. So hang in there, the more in your tree, the more chances of matching up. Carol |
