Thank you for your help, Shirley, Georgina and Jim. Unfortunately Wendy 's death does not seem to be registered under NEWMAN, although that certainly seems like her marriage. Gwyn

Gwyn I have been searching the marriage indexes & there are a few Wendy Bowers but none with her middle initials, I have searched between 1959-1970. Still looking. Georgina.

You might be right Jim. It's a case of search for a marriage in an unknown year and quarter.... or search for a name in a known quarter and year but using just forenames. Gwyn

I would think the best way is search the full images for a marriage

She is not in the death index under her maiden name of BOWERS. Gwyn

Thank you Georgina. She is not registered under her maiden name and I've no idea of her married name. She was 41( born 1942) when she died, possibly in Petersfield or Portsmouth areas of Hampshire. She had cancer, so I don't expect a reason for delaying registration. She was known as Wendy, her 1st name, but had additional forenames of Patricia May,but I don't know who informed of her death or whether they knew her full name. I don't mind trawling through a letter at a time but wondered if there was a better way. As I don't know when she married, I thought it would be better to search a known quarter. Many thanks, Gwyn

Thank you for your interest, Shirley. I did try that but it tells me that my search is missing required information. Am I doing something wrong? Gwyn

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it

cant you search on forename only for June qtr? on Ancestry. I,ve just tried it with fictitious name 'June ' and it came up with one hit for June Qtr 1983

What is the easiest way to find her married name? ...I know a relative's date of death, unfortunately before 1984, when it would have been easier to search for her 3 forenames on Ancestry. She died in Hampshire in early June 1983, so would probably be registered that quarter....... Will I have to trawl all surnames in that quarter?
