Liz, kids can be baptised any time after their birth - you can have a whole batch of them being baptised from one family when some are in their teens and others a couple of months old! The Christening ref number you put down the bottom where it says Batch - I think its just below the region box. You can do the same for marriages and deaths too. Its really handy for finding siblings of a family or indeed siblings marrying in the same church. Im sorry didnt get back, just spent hours finding and ordering 14 birth, death and marriage certs from GRO - only 6 days despatch, which is good. Sarah, the kids may not be twins, just baptised on the same day - remember the records show christenings NOT births. If you have the parents names, bring up a search box, put the surname for the person you are looking for, in this case, clark, in the parents box put those names you think may be yours and then fill in the rest of the search box with a time period etc and see what comes up. Unfortunately most baptisms dont give mums surname so you will get a whole load of John Clarks married to Elizabeths who may or may not be the same wife/woman. As Ann has said, Ive no idea if these are the right couple - I dont know the area, is it in the same locality as the Thomas' baptism? Its a very common name which doesnt help much. |

Heather Positive Tinker You said to find siblings, on IGI, you bring up a new search page, enter the batch number that you have at the bottom of the page that shows a baptism - it should begin with a C. I have such a document, but where on the search page do you enter the C number? Another question is the information accurate if there is Source Info. I have a christening on 7 July 1867, but the only birth I can find is Apr-June 1866. Is it unusual to wait a year before christening a child (who grew up and had at least one child, so was not ailing)? |

So on his baptism it says father Jno (JOHN) and mother Elizabeth? You have fathers name, you need mothers surname. So now you have to look for a marriage between a John Clark and an Elizabeth hopefully in the same area - go a couple of years back from their oldest child. To find siblings, bring up a new search page, enter the batch number that you have at the bottom of the page that shows this Thomas' baptism (it should begin with a C. In the new search leave the first name blank, enter Clark as surname and parents as John Clark, mother as just Elizabeth, it should then bring up all the kids baptised in that church with parents of John Clark and an Elizabeth. Just pray that another John Clark doesnt live in the same place married to an Elizabeth. You will then know the likely years to look for a marriage, go back a couple of years from the earliest kids baptism. (always assuming they married before the kids were born). To find the marriage on the IGI enter the details for John Clark and a marriage to an Elizabeth and do another IGI search for them, as I say hopefully in the same area as the kids were baptised. Then if you find a likely marriage you work back from that. Unfortunatley when you are using the IGI (or parish records) to look up bmd, you may have a dozen John Clarks marrying Elizabeths in Narborough at the rightish time. |
