Need help with N.K.Ireland

My great grandfather is shown on the 1881 census as having been born in N.K. Ireland in 1847. Does anyone know where this is - hope it does not stand for Not known! Thanks |

it means Not Known Ireland at least i think it does Jeanette |

Hi Have you looked on other census my great great grandma was down as being born Ireland but on one of the census' it said Galway Ireland you might be lucky not that it gets you very much further! |

Thats a good idea plus if he served in the military you get a place of birth too. My hubbys family in Liverpool all down just as Ireland in all census but I knew the father was in the Navy and found his record which showed he was from Queenstown Cork. Try National Archives online documents for military records that can be downloaded for £3.50. |
