I am trying to find information on Joseph Henry Johnson (1820) who was a police constable in Deptford in the 1851 census. Are there any sites where I can find records of police officers for that period? thanks Nic |

This is a good site - Metropolitan Police - AND GOOGLE search for anything/everything you want to know. Try this one: http://www.met.police.uk/history/remembrance2.htm |

Metropitan Police Orders Database Search - a chap called Spike Hughes helped me. Very very helpful. I've his email address if you want. Perhaps you should try the database first, as the email address is personal. |

I think you'll find Deptford was outside the Metrpolitan area - it would have been Kent. www.kent-police-museum(.)co(.)uk/core_pages/archive.shtml |

If you can get to Kew (National Archives) you may be able to find info about his time in the Metropolitan police there. I did. If you are not able to get there then I will be happy to assist you. Let me know and pm me the details if you need my help. Fi |

No, Deptford was Met.certainly in late 1800s (I have a Deptford court/inquest article referring to a Met officer witness) and if you look at the Met site you will see a number of police officers who died in service in Deptford in the period we are talking about. |
