Well 'assisted immigration' was when the government helped pay for the fare to Australia (in the 1950's and 1960's people could pay just £10 and the government paid the rest). So I would imagine that 'unassisted immigration' meant that he paid the full fare himself - although this is only a guess. Kath. x |

can any one tell me what does unassisted immigration to victoria mean,my dad was on the ship demosthenes on the 18 july 1914 he was just 18 and i wondered what he was doing that young going to another country,i know he joined the a.i.f in 1916 been trying to look at the passage list but couldnt,so does this mean he immigrate and advice will be helpful thank you joyce from holland ps my dad sailed from london i think |

Perhaps he did know people out their Joyce and thats why he was willing to pay to get there because he had heard he could have a good life. Also check the passenger lists - does he have distant relatives or friends going with him? |
