does anyone else have problems with spyware dss agents coming down with site,every time we do a scan we get these things popping up saying we have an adware problem,down loading with genes reunited,its becoming a little tiresome.Does anyone else have this problem .We used ad-were personal,spybot and Zone alarms .As I have over six years work on Family Tree ,yes and they are all printed off each time i add more info. |

It is unlikely that spyware dss agents is coming from Genes Re-united. It more likely that you haven't managed to get rid of it entirely as the program is running already. Google on the internet as there are a number of article which might be of help. |

Our Virus Checker says it Genesunited .I even printed the report off.Our Virus Checker even DELETED Genesunited from my Favourites |

I have done some more digging on this and is appears that this was non-malicious spyware that was used by Broderbund and Mattell in some of their products and was known as Brodcast, designed to collect information on usage. It was also installed at one time with a number of Family Tree programs, including the ubiquitous FTM. It is not harmful and is no longer used by the suppliers to collect information although it is heavy on computer resource and may slow your pc down. Once you have it it is difficult to remove because it auto runs when you computer starts and your Spyware has difficulty deleting it. Starting in Safe Mode may stop it running and allow it to be removed. This link also provides a removal utility. http://support.learningco*com/brodcastpatch.asp (replace *) |
