Reuben Walker 1834 Buckland Herts located up to 1871 cannot locate in 1881 - but pick up again in 1891 and 1901. Initially with Sarah Nevell, her daughters Hannah and Mary Nevell and his own son William Walker. (Nevell at times transcribed Nevill/Nevil) In 1891 he is with Hannah Walker( who we believe is his Stepdaughter Hannah Nevell??). Anyone able to trace any of these for 1881 census for me please as it could be an important missing link. Perhaps fresh eyes will find where I cannot. Thank you, Roger

Just checked to see if he was using the name Reuben at marriage to Sarah Nevell (1856 Shoreditch 4th quarter) or whether he had another first name that might appear in a later census but unfortunately he was! I'd decided to look at this as there is a William Walker b Buckland age 50 working as a groom in 1881 and as his son was also William......you try anything after a while! Jack

Roger You'll have to tell us some more about Reuben - any ideas as to occupation for example. Clearly there has been some sort of mistranscription of his name/vital details and we need more to pin him down. Regs Annie

In 1871 he is shown as a general labourer, a widower and living with Son William (William Reuben) and Hannah Nevell who is listed as Housekeeper. She is also listed as Daughter in Law but this probably should have read Step daughter By 1991 he is shown with Hannah WALKER as his wife and other children. Arabella Walker, one of the children, being my paternal Grandmother but having only Hannah on her birth certificate as Mother and no father! We think Hannah Walker is Hannah Nevell, Daughter of his first wife Sarah Nevell who also had Mary Nevell. Hence the census for 1881 will be interesting as to the status of Hannah. Many thanks, Roger All addresses are in Islington London until 1901 when they are in Tottenham.

Hi from Marilyn Holder: I believe he is on 1881 census as William R. Walker as Groom (Dom. Servt) married age 50 yrs born Buckland, Herts. living Parish of Barkway, Herts., Street Address: Newsells, Hamlet Barkway Parish. plenty of other Servants listed aas well. Must have been the Manor House or something. There does not appear to be any other Walker's living there. Have a look. Good luck.

Marilyn and I now realize this is NOT Reuben Walker who just had the one name but is his Brother. Anyone so minded to resolve this conundrum please keep looking for me. Kind regards, Roger
