would someone be kind enough to check 1871 census if pos RG10/410 Finsbury page 30 Saint Paul , Elizabeth Heritage is given as wife sister , I cannot make out the surname of the head of family. It looks like Louis Ga...? bookseller from ? Many thanks Marie Kent

Yes, it looks like it is Garcke and that the transcriber's actually got it right for once!! Jack

From Saxony Prussia. The odd letter in the middle is a double s.

Hi Marie, The spelling does look to be GARCKE. So I looked on freebmd and found the marriage of Louisa August GARCKE and Emma Stone Heritage in Sept qtr 1870 Islington. Hope this helps, Joan
