Hi How do I find a correct BDor M on Free BDM. When all I have is the name, date and place of birth I have no idea who they married or when or where they married? I gave it a try and came up with too many names and just an entry in the register and not any info as to who or where they married etc.or am I looking on the wrong site for the info. Thanks Linda

Hi Linda, start with what you know. If you know your parents names, siblings dates of birth etc, you can work out approx when they would have married. If you get the marriage certificate, this will give you the fathers names and occupations. Hopefully you can then find them on the 1901 census etc with the parents. Childrens birth certs will give both parents names so looking for a marriage will be easier. The FreeBMD is not fully transcribed, only going up to aprox 1915 in most regions. To view the Complete index from 1837-1983, go to Ancestry at this address and register it is free. http://www.ancestry*co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx Change star for dot. If you post a name, will see what I can find.
