I am visiting England late Spring on a ancestor trail. My main ancestors stamm from Somerset, Bath area, although I have some in Wiltshire. My question is should I visit the Taunton RO or is Bath RO just as competent for BMD records before 1835? Would be thankful for any tips. Thank you. Elizabeth

Your best option would be to contact each office by e-mail and ask whether they cover the area(s) you need. If you google for the local council then usually you can find the contact details for the Records Offices on the council site. If you can give them some pointers as to what you need before you visit then they can give you a better idea of the records you may want. I often find that contacting the office and doing a bit of prepwork in advance makes things easier. You might need to book a fiche machine in advance for example or check if it is advisable. You may need a readers ticket etc. Better to ask first and not get caught out. Glen
