There was a thread some time back concerning the 'rotation' of info on there online.

i have found that since the time of my first using the site there is no new info on my ancestors, this over a period of abt three years. i,m curious to know if this is common to other researchers.

Ed It is very much hit and miss - transcribing is done purely on a voluntary basis and that determines what goes on the IGI, and when, and where. Many church authorities would not give permission for the LDS to transcribe their records, so that is a dead end as far as the IGI is concerned. But I was over the moon to discover, about two years ago, that the IGI contained newly-transcribed prs for the Isle of Man - previously a closed book to me - and I gathered up five generations! OC

Sadly, Norfolk is one area which wouldnt pass info over to the Mormons.

Someone gave me a tip if you go into the search screen and just go into the heading IGI, just put in the sirname, country and area, you get loads of names to trawl through, including ones that don't come up if you put loads of search details in--I came across several generations of my ancestors on one such trawl that another descendent put in--I then wert to the FHC and got the cd which gave me the tree in ascending order and the submitters name (these can be out of date though!) The Index is an ongoing work and gets added to all the time ie I submit my tree details and it is slowly added over time) Carol

Ed I took it you are talking about EXTRACTED records, not submitted ones. I was referring to extracted records, as I have never found any submitted ones which have been of the slightest use, being exercises in flights of fancy as far as I can see. They go in almost daily. You could, of course, go along to your nearest LDS family history centre, and offer to transcribe the records which interest you.... OC
