Have a look at this web page. Whoever the site belongs to seems to suggest that the name is a varient of the name Hearne. There are contact details on the page. http://privatewww.essex.ac.uk/~alan/family/S-Hearne.html Kath. x

This info found by googling (surname meaning Horniman) on www(.)your-familytree(.)com. The site this came from also shows a family coat of arms. Spelling variations of this family name include: Harman, Harmon and others. First found in Suffolk where they were seated from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D. Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: Charles Harman who settled in Virginia in 1622; Augustine Harman settled in Maryland in 1666 along with his wife, three sons, and four daughters; Francis Harman settled in New England in 1635. You'd be better off going to the library and looking at a good book on surname meanings. Many of the websites offering coats of arms etc are very suspect and in places wrong. Sue
