hi all, does anyone here know anything about fixing pc's? My pc crashed last week i had someone come and look at it yesterday, and was told half of windows are missing, is this possible and if so is it worth having it fixed? the thing is, my pc was working fine.

You can repair your Windows XP installation by using the original Windows CD. It is vital that you back up important files before you do this! You will also need to run Windows Update once you have repaired your installation.

Im surprised the person who came to look at it didnt just reinstall them for you. Was he a pc repairer? The Windows are just a program - nothing to do with the actual mechanics of your puter, so yes, if everything else is ok, then reinstall them. If the computer is old and is straining under the amount of work you are doing then think of getting a new one.

hi all, thank you all for your replys, sorry i have taken a while to answer, but having to use my daughters laptop when available. The problem is also, i cannot access my start menu. i have put it in safemode and still cannot use start menu. Although i am able to access help and support, also loads of my files are missing from my desktop, they are still there though as when i scan with my antivirus it scans all the files. The guy who came out was from local paper and said it was beyond repair as apparently i don't have a product key on the hard drive?????? so he was unable to reinstall windows i use millenium version if this helps.
