I have been rereading some old letters written to my GGGGrandfather Richard BETTS (Bates) from his sister Jane GILBERT back in Teston,Kent. They date from 1834. Richard & family went to Western Australia in 1830. Jane & her husband John Gilbert had children born in Teston,Ellen 1821,John 1823,Thomas,1824,Jane 1827,Mary Ann 1829,Elizabeth 1830,Michael 1834,Charles 1836,Edward 1837,William (Difoere??) Julia Alexander. Information also - we have 2 sailors & 2 carpenters ,then goes on to mention that John is in Upper Canada with sister Ann CHAPMAN (Jane & Richards sister).Charles in Merchant service & Michael in Hong Kong. Also Ellen & Thomas are in Gravesend (1849;dont know if she means the siblings or if Ellen married a Thomas). In 1849 not one of the children are in Teston. 'Julia single':,maybe means other girls are married??? Jane Gilbert known to have died old age. Can anyone find & follow this family to satisfy my curiosity. Thanks Kerri

Hi Yes,I have those. I was interested in what happened to the children. Are you able to find them in later life? Thanks Kerri

WOW! A huge amount of information to digest. Thanks so much for finding what happened to the Gilberts. I will sort through these & may have a few more queries. Your help is appreciated. Kerri
