I do my searching on Ancestry and never manage to find what I'm looking for. I enter the event, name and date etc. but the feedback I get is always 1000's names, 100 years different to my request. If I select 2 stars or 3 stars I get the feed back 0 found try lower searches. Can anyone tell me how I get better results please? Linda

If you have the box ticked you should get results back without any stars next to them. I only get stars if I'm searching without the tick in the box. Kath. x

Are you searching the actual indexs or the whole or ancestry? Or something different? These is the address for the indexs, you'll need to look through each quarter for each year for the names you are looking for. They wont appear on a general search on the site as they have not been prperly transcribed yet. http://www.ancestry*co*uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx Mhairi

You can't do a simple search for anything after about 1915. For births after that go to this page on Ancestry:- http://content.ancestry(.)co.uk/iexec/?htx=List&dbid=8964&offerid=0%3a7858%3a0 remove brackets from above address. The page that comes up had three boxes on it. You want the top one which has the complete index of births from 1837 to 1983. You click on births. then put in the name and a year when you think the birth may have been. Then click 'search'. You will get a page with four quarters on it for that year. Click on 'view image' for every quarter and check the alphabetical list that comes up for the name you are looking for. You have to do this for every quarter and every single year. Any births, marriages and deaths after about 1915ish takes time, but they ARE there. Kath. x

Mhairi, These births won't be found on the FreeBMD section of the site, as the years Linda needs are not transcribed yet. Kath. x

Thanks Kathleen and Mhairi, I think I've done all this, seems it's going to be a long haul.

Kath That site should bring up all the indexs...at least it does on my computer :) It shows the complete ones, then the freebmd ones then the 1983-2004 ones...or maybe the other way round Mhairi
