Over the past nine months we've had building work done, we've had to live in a caravan and been without a computer for weeks on end. During this time masses of my family 'stuff' was in a large carrier bag that I tried not to let out of my sight. But.......during the Christmas holiday it somehow got into the garage with other carriers and ......... you've guessed it ......... is no more. Lots of time (not to mention money) gone to the tip. So my advice if moving house or having building work done, is to have all your records in a very distinctive bag, box, whatever. I suppose I'll get around to re-doing it all again one day but right now the task seems too daunting! PS I've blame every member of the family except myself!!!

Have you a good family tree program that you have kept all the info and sources on? I would again urge anyone starting out in this research to get a Famiy Tree Maker program which you can add to so easily and back up to cd or to the internet and produce your own home page (easily!), I am shocked at my early work which was all on bits of paper and I made no note of sources or important info. Since having the program, I get a cert or whatever and immediately put all the details on the program so that its safe. I had a puter crash and simply backed up all my info from my internet storage on there. Can you imagine how it would feel to lose years and years of work - makes me shudder.
