Hi Does anybody think it would be out of order to trace different branches of my tree down to the present and contact them to ask for info? I have hit a wall and dont know what else to do. Thank you David |

As long as you approach them with tact and consideration, I don't see why you can't ask them. After all, they can only say 'no'. |

I trace other branches of my tree but never put those living on the line. I stop after a certain date as a bit of respect for those living. |

I would not put them on my tree, just wanna contact them and ask them for details about distant ancestors. You never know what you may find. Regards David |

So long as you don't put living people online I can't see any problem with contacting distant relations. I am in contact with numerous 4th, 5th and 6th cousins I have met online. Some of them have helped me fill in gaps and I have helped others. I have one online friend who shares a distant relation with me many generations back. I can't remember how many times cousin she is but it is a lot. It took us about 5 years to find our common ancestor but we succeeded last year. Good luck Sue |
