where could I find more information? I have a father on birth/marriage certificate down as John Clendinning Watters - master mariner - born Ireland. I have no idea where in Ireland mind you! I've looked on the National Archives site but couldn't find anything for this John, would that be because he was Irish rather than British? Is there a similar site for Ireland? Thanks Laura

Have you tried a google search? It may bring up some answers for you. Good Luck Ann

Just found out the National Archives only goes from 1860s or 1870s so may possibly not have anything for him. Mind you, the son wasn't born until 1841 so maybe it should be there!
