Hi i'm needing a help on finding my granddad's 2nd wife... After she married my granddad she was placed in a institution... She was incurably of unsound mind and had been continuously under care and treatment for a period of at least 5 years or more... How do i search for her??? Where do i start from... There are replies to your thread on Records, its best to keep all the information on one thread and it saves people from looking up information that someone else might have already looked up and wastes time. Regards Mhairi

Tracey Incurable insanity has ALWAYS been cause for divorce!(And probably still is...) The fact that you say 'incurably insane for five years' is exactly what a divorce court would demand to see as proof. If you got a copy of the Decree Nisi, it might tell you more... OC

Sorry, I see you already have the decree nisi. Willesden is North London - she would almost certainly be in Friern Barnet (aka Colney Hatch) hospital, in New Southgate. This hospital closed in the 1980s, but the records are still in existence, I am sure, and held by the local Health Authority. Whether you would be allowed any information, I am not sure. OC
