Iwould have thought that if what peter is saying is true ,that s&n are spying on your computer activites they could be done by the law,and poss they might be breaking the freedom of infomation act . that would be like commiting suicide for a big money making firm would it not?

A year or so ago they were writing to people threatening legal action and asking for a full tree to prove the look ups were their ancestors!

Oh dear, this sounds a bit dodgy as l have registered more than one computer, one at my business (poking around if l am not busy there!) and one at home and have also looked up some things for a friend, do hope l don't get a large bill! thanks for the advice

Apparently they keep a record of your activities and the names and frequencies you look things up. Notwithstanding the fact that you have paid credits, if they think you have been doing lots of lookups for certain names, you will receive a bill for several hundreds of pounds at £5 per lookup. This was highlighted about a year ago after some people got their fingers burned. There is also the issue that you can only log on from one PC which is spooky as well as it implies they have clocked your PC's IP address on the internet as well. Just be wary, thats all.

What do you mean tracking your activities? l have used this site and had quite good sucess with it, as to the free credits my friend gave it a try but the credits were used us so quickly as they charge several credits for each thing she didn't manage to find anything,

Just a word of warning with this site as a number of people have come to grief. They appear to be very good at tracking your activities. Do look the the terms and condittions, in particular regarding lookups, and go in with your eyes open # Access will be available for one computer and browser only. If you change your computer/browser you will be given the opportunity to register the new one. Your account will be suspended if you do this more than three times. # We reserve the right to impose a usage limit and the right to suspend the service in cases of misuse. # Providing a look-up service will cause immediate suspension without refund. # Those proven to be using our service to provide a look-up service will be liable to a charge of £5 per distinct name for which they have searched.
