I have at last found my grt grandparents. Isaac and Emily Sarah Bottomley I know they both died young Emily was 41, I managed to find her death record. But I am unsure about Isaac, he was born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire in 1869 but on the 1901 census he was living in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. He worked in a Lunatic Asylum. They had a son in 1907 Claude Bottomley. I have found a death record for an Isaac Bottomley 1915 age 45 but it is in N. Bierley which I believe was a poor house in Yorkshire (not sure). Did my grt granddad return to his roots? If I sent for the death certificate would it give me enough information so I would know if I had the right person? What would you do. Janet

North Bierley is an area, not a workhouse. It covers Cleckheaton and the surrounding areas. (in West Yorkshire) The death cert would only tell you his name, age, possibly his DOB (but only as far as it is known by the informant), the name of the informant (could be anyone - even a doctor) Not sure there'd be anything to say specifically that he's your chap. If his wife had died it is quite possible that Isaac returned to an area where he had relatives to help with any children. Do you know where the children grew up, - school records perhaps? .or a later marriage? Gwyn

It wouldn't have his date of birth (that was only added in 1969). It would have his occupation, but he might have changed that from the last time you knew what he did. If they had any other children who would have been old enough to register the death, you might get lucky, but I think you will just have to order the certificate and hope for the best if you aren't sure of anything else about his death.
