Hello Teresa's advice on obtaining Irish certificates was brilliant and much appreciated, and I've searched the tips board about Irish PRs, but am still a bit confused and wondered if anyone could help, please. What I would like to do is to find my 2x great grandparents' marriage (Samuel Watson/Margaret Sullivan). I assume they would have been Catholic, although I realise I can't take that 100% for granted. The first child I have information about is a daughter born in 1865, and I know that they were based on the Beara peninsula in West Cork. I've looked on a website called Ireland[.]com, and worked out the parish was probably Killaconenagh or possibly Kilcatherine, both of which are in the Poor Law Union of Castletown, Co Cork. I would be very grateful if someone could tell me how to find out where the records are held and how to view them, please. (I do know they may not be available online or via a one-off search; you could pay 15 Euros on ireland[.]com to find out where records might be, but I thought it was a scam, as you didn't get any info on the contents of the records.....). I have looked on the LDS site and not found anything. Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help me on this, and best wishes Lysianne |

SAMUEL WATSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Birth: 01 MAR 1869 , Cork, Ireland 3. SAMUEL WATSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Birth: 01 FEB 1867 , Cork, Ireland 4. HENRY WATSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Birth: 09 APR 1871 , Cork, Ireland 5. Rose Anne Watson - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Birth: 20 APR 1875 , Cork, Ireland You could apply for the Marriage Certificate of Samuel Watson and Margaret Sullivan. Send a letter with the application form and explain that you don't have a date but could they please do a search for 5 or 10 years before the eldest child on this list was born..unless you have know of earlier birth. That's what I did to get my Gt Grandparent's marriage certificate. Regards...Teresa |

Hi Teresa and Sandie - and everyone who's helped Thank you very much for your help and advice, and the IGI births. I used Teresa's thread about the Ireland GRO to send off for Ellen's birth, so hopefully that will help; Gail also very kindly helped me and I think she's found Samuel and Margaret's marriage, which is amazing. I am so grateful to people for helping me - although I've been doing the English and Welsh bits of my tree for a while, I've previously been too daunted - and clueless - to even make a start on the Irish bits. Incidentally, could I ask expert advice again, please? The Watson births seem to be given as in different places in Cork - eg Derrycriveen, Castletown and Cork. Could they all have been in the same place? Derrycriveen is in the parish of Castletown, and they're both in Cork..... What do you think, please? Once again, many thanks to everyone for all their brilliant help, and best wishes Lysianne |
