To follow on from a couple of threads regarding my rellie Joseph Adler, we have now found a couple of refs to a Joseph Adler in the 1865 London Gazette. The Joseph quoted was living in Hammersmith (where mine was at the time) and was reported to be a journeyman coachtrimmer (again a match with mine) and he was being sued for bankrupcy. What I would like to know is where can I look next - the dates quoted are 27/06/1865 and 11/08/1865 with a Court date fixed for 10/10/1865 which we believe he failed to attend. Does anyone know of any further bankrupcy info that could be found or whether it is likely that he went to debtors prison, if so where can I look for info - is there a list of these? Any help appreciated. Clare |
