Is the new Beverley Record Office open now?? Just check before you go because I know they were moving to fab new premises and were closed for quite a long time. Don't know when they were due to reopen. Anne

Bear in mind that Beverley does not have PR for ALL East Yorkshire parishes, those to the west of the county are at York. Best to check on Genuki for each parish, before you go. Will help you plan your day more efficiently and also avoid disappointment! Enjoy your visit. Jay

Hi Sue. If you know the exact place and date of marriage, it is easy as you just need to get the relevant film and look for it on a viewer. You can then order a photocopy of it. In Portsmouth, it's 75p, much cheaper than a copy from the Registry Office. If you only have the year and quarter, you will need to check through every Church in the District but that isn't a sure bet of finding it as Registry Office and Non Conformist marriages won't be there. You can access baptism records but again, you will need to know which Church and it's a long shot as not all babies were baptised and sometimes, parents did a 'job lot' and had multiple baptisms. Some people got baptised as adults, in order to get married, so it is a hard task to find them. Ask at the Record Office for help. The Staff will guide you and remember that the other people sitting near you are doing the same thing and it helps to talk as the saying goes!

Hi Sue, The records office will probably NOT use the reference number, but if you know the place and time of the event, they will point you in the right direction to find the information, be it a baptism or marriage in the parish records. (dont forget births are not recorded at the records office, they are at the register office).
