Anorak Have you had a look at the website www.workhouses.org.uk. ?There is some information on there about the Woburn workhouse. It indicates that some records are at the Bedfordshire and Luton Archives Service (County Hall). Whilst there doesn't appear to be a list of inmates maybe your relative is mentioned in some of their minutes or other documentation sources. Karen

If your relative died in the workhouse, it WAS usual for the Master of the Workhouse to be the informant. You might find a list of inmates on the 1841 census, but i doubt whether you will find a list of inmates in 1844 (not online anyway). County record offices might have lists, but I'm not sure. Received a death cert today. On the cert itself that age is given as what looks like 16 but the mauve 'Application for a Death Certificate', sheet that comes with it states 'Age at death in years' 68. In the first left hand column of the cert it says No 436 and that 6 looks like the 6 in the age column. The informant was the Master of the Woburn Workhouse, so I am assuming that my rellie had no other relatives with him, OR, was it the usual practice for the Master of the Workhouse to always be named as the informant.????? Also, is there any way I can find the list of inhabitants of the workhouse at that time, which was May 1844.
