Paul Your mother isnt related to my father, is she, lol! He had exactly the same attitude - why would some distant relative get in touch, unless they were after money! OC

Some people have a funny attitude about all this. My mother for instance worries that if I make contact with a relative they will pester me for money. Most odd. But that's the way she thinks. I managed to persuade her to meet up with a woman I had found who shares the same great grandfather as her. We had a lovely pub lunch together and now they are the best of friends and exchange christmas cards etc. But before they met she was really fretting.

Had a similar problem. Emailed three very possible matches, two went down the lefthand side of the tree, quite a distance from my side, but they replied very quickly. Both suggested I contact the third person as that was the branch I needed. I did this post haste, in fact i emailed 5 times, but with no response. In desperation I contacted one of the other matches and told them I had no luck with getting a reply to my message. He got in touch with her and guess what, she had changed her email address, so never received any of my emails. He has now contacted her and asked her to email me direct, so remember....'If at first you don`t succeed, try, and try again' Good luck Kathlyn

And another tip, if you do get a reply don't rush to type a message back immediately, walk into the kitchen, make a cup of tea, nibble a biscuit, phone a friend anything. Just give yourself a breathing space to think about your reply before you start typing. Good luck

Hi Gemma The first B/relative I found on GR took weeks to answer my e-mail! After searching for so long I was impatient for a reply! I know it's frustrating but don't give up. I don't know when you last contacted the person but if it WAS a while ago,It might be they have missed an e-mail or vice versa You could send another message (change the subject title maybe). Try not to be too pushy though! Good luck. Regards Ann

Do you think may be it was someone else with your sister in their tree and not actually your sister putting the info on here? If you want to get in touch, have you tried any other ways like electoral rolls or telephone directories?

ErikaH Report 27 Jan 2007 15:09

You must be patient.........your message may have come as a shock. Do you have reason to think she knew about you? If not........well, put yourself in her shoes. Hope it works out Reg
