I think that people tend to use Records for the more specific look ups rather than general bmd or census info. I always used Records for information that was less likely to be available generally and for which some kind soul would have specialised resources. |

I have no problem with the 'mix and match' of tips and records office..........just as long as the rubbish that is on general stays there......... Reg |

Margaret The records board that Roger is talking about is the 'records office' one. The tabs at the top near the tab that says tips board. Roger You may miss them out but alot of other people dont so i suppose it does not matter either way. The tips does have tips on it but usually i use it more for asking questions rather than posting. I really dont think it matters though, if your on tips or records or even general, lots of people are more than happy to point you in the right direction. Mhairi |

Roger, With respect the tips board has always been used this way. The records board (if I am looking at the correct one) has a form to fill in and then it does a search to see if other members have information of the name and date requested. Or you get redirected at cost to the Census. Tips Board is a 'general blanket name' where members enjoy helping each other. I certainly enjoy trying to help others and many members have helped me. In the years that I have been a member I have never had the time to view the other boards so it is nice to have this board set up in this way - it is only a name. I hope that you too will enjoy it when you understand it. Margaret N |

Well I would perfer a heading Joe Blogs, Yorkshire Lookup, Then in the body of text, the rest of infor they have it would be easier than just 1841 census because I don't even look at them, so they are missing people like me out of they search. |

Things always get a bit mixed up Roger, some people just arent sure where to post. On regards asking for look ups, in fairness most people put who the are looking for, with birth dates ect, in the main body of the message. I doubt most people could fit in all the information in the title of the tread. If they didnt put all they knew people would then complain that they wheren't putting enough information. Regards Mhairi |

I though this board is a tips board, not a requested board for looking for records that is done on the records board. Also I wish people looking for help or the like would put on the heading who or what they are looking for, it would make things alot easier than say 1841 lookup, if you put Joe Blogs born where ever, 1839. |
