JUST A HEADS UP TO ALL WHO HAVE PAY PAL ACCOUNTS: I have just received an email purporting to be from PayPal with details of a Dell computer being charged to my account and sent to an unknown (to me) person in another state. It asks for confirmation of the transaction and gives a link to take you to a website. I did not go to this link. I contacted paypal and they have confirmed that this is a phony message and is not from them. They suggest it is a way to get you to provide information on your account to the link. The phoney email looks very realistic and even gives a false paypal ID number. So if you get one of these do not go to the link and never give out the information requested. Please report to Paypal directly, they are working on this. |

Hi Doreen Thanks for confirming I am not going crazy! It was a real shock to come home from a week away and find it in my email, till I began to check on it. Glad you reported it too! Regards. Maggie |

I had one a few weeks back saying that there was unusual activity on my account and could I click on the link. I haven't actually used the account in two years so I contacted Paypal and e-bay direct and forwarded the letter to them (and closed the account) |

As an added help ....... ...... whenever you get an email of this kind, or one from a bank saying your account needs checking, or you ow money, or some such ........ ........ if you are like me and can see the whole of that email without opening it further ....... ........ scroll down to see if there is an email address that it says you are to contact. Hold the pointer from your mouse over that address (do NOT click on the mouse!) ...... and after a few moments the 'real' address will show. Now you know where you would be sending your email contact!! Even if the address that shows up does look legit ......... you should NEVER email this way. Banks do NOT contact you about errors in accounts this way. Paypal does NOT contact you this way Ebay does NOT contact you this way. |
