can anyone advise how to find Irish ancestors. I have discovered an Irish Grandfather - cornelius duggan(duggin) born around 1881. Is there an Irish census list I can refer to, I haven't had any luck so far. Many thanks. christine |

all irish census before the 1901 and 1911 where destroyed by the government after they had taken the statistical information from them. Very, very small parts from ealier ones have survived but your best bet is the Griffiths valuations. Try familysearch (IGI) as already suggested, this site may also be useful www.censusfinder*com/ireland.htm replace the * Your local LDS centre may also have, or be able to order in, the irish bmd indexs. Since your relative was born in 1881 he should appear as general registration started in 1864. Hope thats of some help Mhairi |
