Mhairi Queen of Scots Report 26 Jan 2007 14:32

Does anyone have any experience tracing people who have fostered rather than adopted? I'm helping someone look for a brother they did not know they had until very recently and she would like to find him if she can, and if not him then his children if he had any. The person in Question was born in Scotland in 1936, his sister a year before. Their mother died about six months after the birth and the daughter was fostered out. I have checked his birth certificate and no where on it does it mentioned of the child being adopted. I have also checked all the deaths in Scotland up to the present date for him but he doesnt show. Which i know does not mean much as he may have moved. I have yet to check the marriages which i hope might yield something. Would it be worth getting in contact with social services to see if they can offer any help? Would any information from them stop when he turned 16? Apart from putting an advert in the paper from the area that he was born, can anyone suggest any other methods of tracing him? Cheers Mhairi

HI I WAS FOSTERD FOR TEN YEARS BEFORE BEEN ADOPTED if he was never adopted i would think birth details would stay the same but if adopted a cross by my adopted name on the birth index indicates i was adopted and my name had been changed if you put birth details for us we might be able to find him for you are p.m me and i will see if we can find him for you bacardi xxxx

Thanks for that Bacardi As i said, i've seen his birth cert and nothing has been added to it and since its in Scotland he wont be in the indexs but thanks for offering to take a look. I'll take a look at friendsreunited, for some reason i missed that one out when thinking about places to look. Mhairi
