Hi Chris, If its not too much trouble, would you be prepared to send me your standard reply? I too get a lot of these messages and it would save me some typing. Cheers, Horatia

This is becoming more and more of a problem. Luckily, after searching my sent, received and contact messages, I realised it was something to do with the contact not understanding how Hot Matches work. So I sent a polite reply explaining about Hot matches. Contact messaged me and thanked me for the info stating that they wished Genes had made it clearer 'cause she had sent similar messages to numerous (over 50!!!!) supposed contacts.....As she said '****** waste of my time and yours' And then the next week I got another.....So I typed out a similar reply. And then two more....So I sent individual replies. Then MORE! and MORE!! and MORE!!! So much so that I now have a standard reply that I copy and paste explaining Hot Matches and then add a more personal start and close to the message. Update....And before anyone asks how I get Hot Matches when there is only one name in my tree, I have a free tree of direct ancestors that I can be contacted through :) Chris

Yes, this is a common problem. Many new GR members don't seem to know what's going on re the Hot Matches Messages. I don't know whether that's because GR don't make the purpose of these messages clear enough or whether people just don't like reading! ;-) Cheers, Horatia

Thanks for that. I never leave a message unanswered, because I think it's only polite to reply, even if there is no link to your own research. Think I will ignore these though. PP xx

They are usually new members responding to Hot Matches, in the mistaken belief that you HAVE contacted them. As they are nearly always Not Matches, you can fairly safely delete them without a qualm.

I've had several messages come through in the past week or so as if people are replying to me. Thing is that I haven't contacted them in the first place. Odd or what? PP xx
