HI,
There are Eleven pages that were sent to me for James Lee's army records.and yes it says 10 years 7 months on my copy as well..His number was 126 and he was a sergeant.
I live in Australia so cant check the muster rolls unfortunately.

I am interested in the Portugese wife that Colin Taylor mentions....it does seem as though it is the same records we are talking about though..

I have since found his death in Salford as well in 1876 but have never found his birth/baptism.

Sorry it has taken me 3 years to get back to everyone..

Unfortunately Muster Rolls this early do not usually mention wives and children.

I assume he got a pension? There are records of local pension payments at Kew, so if you know where he lived when he left the Army, they might be worth looking at. They normally only have an entry when a man first started receiving pension payments in that area, or when he moved out of the area or when he died. UK pension records only go up to 1862.

You could also try the Regimental births and marraige records on FMP

Hi
I have looked at the images on FMP and it states he was posted in the Mediterranean for 10 yrs 7 months and discharged as unfit. It lists his promotions etc.

How many pages did the NA send you?

To find out where he was and if children were with him etc you can can look throught the muster rolls for the regiment at the NA.

The 95th were The Rifle Brigade. Try this site for there deployment :- www*regiments*org/regiments/uk/inf/095RB.htm Replace * with dot If you click on 1st Battalion it will give you there location at any given time, you may be able to match births with place's. Click 2nd Battalion etc to do the same. Keith

I had a set of Army records fron NA covering a similar period.....there were a few pages and it did give some details of service abroad and the reason for discharge...he had served many years and was now unfit to carry out the full duties required...he was discharged in Ireland after serving all his career abroad..... It does not give any details of parents, next of kin or the fact that he seems to have picked up a Portugese wife on his travels..nor is there an Army number. I am not sure how you can be certain that it is the correct person. My second set of army records are from the 1932-45 period and they do give a lot of personal details including next of kin etc
