Can anyone tell me if a 10-day old baby, separated from its mother- presumably still in a maternity home or hospital of somesort -would get a census entry? His mother is back at home but he's not listed in the home. He does survive and goes on to marry so I know he's a contender for the census (1901)... any ideas?

It should be there. Might be listed as Baby Unknown though, if it's not with the mother. What's his name?

He may have just been missed off - parents might have been too worn out to think about adding him to the census form. They weren't at the bottom of a page were they......if so have you checked the next page? What is his name and whereabouts should he be? Do you have his birth certificate so you know exactly where he was born? Most babies would have been born at home in those days. Kath. x

If the census forms were delivered early they may have been filled in before he was born, and no-one thought to add him on. At the other end of the scale my gt gt grandmother was recorded on the 1881 census (3rd/4th April) even though she had died on the 2nd April.

The child who died is likely to be linked to the family,- perhaps a cousin? Do you have the marriage certificate for your Charles to know that he was the son of Willam and Mary? Gwyn

According to the birth indexes there is only one Charles Henry Acourt born between 1899 and 1903.

Hiya, yep I have his birth certificate and the birth certificates of his siblings and the three closest siblings to him all have the same parentage ie. mothers maiden name was Sarah (Mary?)
