hi im new at this so i hope someone can help.im trying to find my half brother,he was adopted.i found him in the births register and tried to get a copy of his birth certificate.but they said they needed his full date of birth because of some 50yr rule.im at a lose as what to do.can anyone help? |

Unfortunately I think the only way to get his DoB will be to ask a relative that would been around when your brother was born and ask them do they remember when his birthday is - you might have to find where he was boorn too as I ordered my mum's birth certificate last year (she couldn't find the original and needed it), she's 50 this summer and I had to check where she was born and name the hospital on the form when I applied to the GRO. |

Just posting for ref. Never heard of this one before, i know i applied for a cert for an adopted cousin and it was sent without any questions. The birth was in the 1980's but i applied to the local office. Question for you Rachel, are you hoping the cert will tell you the name he was given after adoption? If that is the case then i'm afraid the birth cert won't tell you that. There are ways to apply for help to let him know you are looking for him. If you put 'adoption' in the thread search box there are several threads about the subject. Glen |

Rachel Consulted my 'oracle of knowledge' Just out of interest, have you tried to apply for the certificate without quoting the GRO reference number? If this is the case then for post 1957 births then you have to supply the date of birth. If you can supply the GRO index reference number then the cert should be issued regardless of whether the certificate relates to an adoptee or not. As i mentioned earlier the cert will not give you any clues as to who adopted him, or where he was adopted. Glen |
