How sure are you of the place of birth? Could he have been born somewhere else and moved to Manchester when he was little and just thought he was born there? There is this birth:- Thomas William Brumby Dec. qtr. 1872, Bramley, 8b, 308 (number not very clear) Bramley is in West Yorkshire. As Reg says, he may not have been registered. Kath. x

You should be able to view passport applications of this period at www.findmypast(.)com in the Migrations section, although you need to buy units to look at the images.

Charles, Unfortunately Thomas Walker Bumby stays in England. I can see him on later censuses. Rose

Glenda Like you, I could not find a Thomas Brumby. So, I started playing with the name and found a Thomas Walker Bumby with birth registered in Manchester in 1873. The birth is Manchester, Apr, May, Jun, 8d 268. No guarantees it is the right one but as close as I can get. ps. Registered in 1873 does not mean born in 1873. It could have taken a while for him to be registered.

Hi from Australia If my grandfather Thomas Brumby cannot be found on the bdm even thought his marriage and death certificate and his childrens certificates states his place of birth manchester lancashire england and all working out show his birth date to 1872. Where else could they be. How can I find out about passports application as he was 8 when he came to Australia. This my give me clues as to his parents as all I have is John Brumby and Susan Sandry. I need clues as to where to look.... Thanks glenda
