You really need the birth certificates to confirm the identities of the parents, but if you look at the indices (to find the references to order the certificates) you will find the mothers maiden names. If the mothers' names are different from the child's, it is reasonable to assume that the parents were married. Look backwards in time in the marriage index and see if you can shortlist possible marriages between the two names. If you can, you will almost certainly find the couples in 1901 census - and you're away... Update: Sorry misread the dates in haste: you will only find one mother's maiden name, as the other birth was 1910, and the index didn't include mother's name until 1911. |

You will need to buy their birth certificates to find out who the parents were. You can get them from www.gro.gov.uk and they will cost £7 is you have the GRO references. Sam x |

1947 Jan-Feb-Mar Littlefair, Alfred mmn DIXON Durham S.E 1a 1087 Looks like the mothers maiden name was Dixson. Was Alfred the oldest? I found all the information i have posted at http://www.ancestry*co*uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx You may have to register, its free unless you want to sign up for all the other records. Look at the Complete index till you get pre 1900 then the partial database will help though it is not complete so if you cant find one there then you have to go back to the complete one. Will take a look for marriage and siblings, do you have any names for brothers and sisters? Mhairi |
